Kids And Crafts by Stephen Campbell

If you are a parent, crafting is one of the most rewarding activities you can do with your children. Teachers, camp counselors, and other who work with children regularly can also great benefit from the crafting world. Crafting helps children foster creativity and hone motor and artistic skills, so even if you are not crafty yourself, consider enjoying crafting with your children.

When crafting with kids, the most important thing to do is find crafts appropriate for their age and skill level. This can be difficult when you are working with a number of children in a classroom setting or when you're working with your own children and they are of multiple skill levels. However, it is possible to find crafts that can start simply and progress into more difficult techniques for older children. The important thing it to keep everyone included.

When we were children, one of the most basic craft projects we learned to do is coloring with crayons and markers. This is something great to do with children because you can find many educational coloring book pages. Instead of simply hanging the pictures on your refrigerator, however, turn them into more complex projects. Use them to decoupage or make them into greeting cards. Grandparents love getting birthday cards featuring drawings from their grandchildren!

You can also find fun projects to teach your children the importance of recycling. Use newspaper, for example, to do paper mache projects and create candles out of old crayons. You can find a number of crafting books that show you ways to use plastic bottles, tin cans, tissue boxes, and a number of other items that you would typically throw away.

When crafting with children, it is very important to find projects that are safe. Remember, a child's body is still developing, so they are susceptible to chemicals and other harmful toxins whereas adult bodies are not as vulnerable. Learn what chemicals to avoid and check labels. This is especially important for paints, glues, and clays. Make sure to watch younger children very carefully, as even non-toxic substances can be harmful if they get into a child's eyes and, in any case, can be difficult to remove from carpets and walls!

If you do not like doing crafts, consider making a change for your children. Craft projects do not have to be expensive, messy, or difficult to do-you can even find crafts that will make great household decorative items! If all else fails, consider signing up your children for classes at local craft supply stores and summer camps.
