River Kayaking by Trevor Kugler
River Kayaking is a very enjoyable thing to do. Whether you like shooting down a set of rapids or simply lazily floating down your favorite river, a kayak is a great way to do it. Traditional kayaks can be quite expensive and really cumbersome. Getting a fiberglass kayak from here to there can be quite a spectacle. An alternative to a fiberglass kayak is a quality inflatable kayak. River kayaking in an inflatable kayak is much more effective than you might be thinking.
I'm not disparaging fiberglass kayaks here, I'm just saying that there are other option available. Although it may not sound like it, inflatable kayaks can be great too. I'm not talking about those things that you blow up with your mouth and play with in a pool either. Technology has enables manufacturers to produce high quality inflatable kayaks at very affordable prices, which are much less than fiberglass. Some inflatable river kayaks can easily be taken down class IV rapids! Those things that go in your pool can't do that. Some of these river kayaks are even equipped with self bailing mechanisms.
An inflatable river kayak is small enough, when deflated, to be taken in the trunk of a car, or even a small airplane. Many of these kayaks are large enough to fit two adults comfortably, along with a ton of gear. And they're tough enough to be stabbed with a screwdriver or smacked with a hammer. Yep, inflatable river kayaks are just as tough as their fiberglass cousins.
In all honesty there are few things on this planet as relaxing and soul nourishing as floating down your favorite river in a quality river kayak. Listening to the gurgling of the water, the singing birds, and smelling the airs on a warm sunny day is what being alive is all about? Albert Einstein said of nature, " Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." Well, in my opinion, there is no better way to experience nature and begin to understand things better, than while river kayaking.
