Miss e-Marketing and You'll Miss the Boat

by Kae Groshong

e-Marketing is becoming the next killer app in the marketing and sales world. And, if you're not using the variety of e-marketing tools available, you're missing the boat.

Take all of the traditional direct marketing and advertising tactics and pack them up. You might want to pull out one or two of them later, but right now you need, absolutely must, start developing an e-marketing plan.

E-Marketing has the ability to get customers to you that you would never have found otherwise.

You'll be able to generate revenue in ways that would never have been possible before.

You'll have better relationships with your target markets, know them more intimately and have greater loyalty.

How so? Here are eight reasons why e-marketing is your best choice for marketing.

Every move you make: e-Marketing is so incredible because of its very unique ability to track every move of the target market. No other marketing tactic can give you the ability to know who is looking you over and who is just ignoring you. The ability to intimately know your buyers isn't possible in any other venue.

Wrap your arms around the world: finding new markets, getting in new doors and attracting attention in new ways is done effectively through e-marketing. You can now achieve a global reach and find anyone in the world who might be a buyer of your products and services. Who would have thought 10 years ago that consumers in Germany, Japan or Brazil could buy your goods? Maybe your products don't lend themselves to global sales, but your purchasing needs do. With e-marketing tools, vendors can find and service you from anywhere on the globe.

Costs less - do it more: you'll find that your marketing reach is greater with e-marketing because the costs are lower. When you execute a properly planned e-marketing campaign you can reach the right customers at the right time with the right offering at a much lower cost than traditional methods. And, you can begin to engage them and increase their brand loyalty immediately.

All day and all night: with e-mail marketing you can reach your buyers 24/7 and they can respond at a time that works for them - not times that you dictate. Many business people spend hours in front of their computers at night searching out potential vendors, searching for new solutions and looking for information that will make their work easier. Make sure you're front and center and that they can find you anytime they want.

My name is....there is nothing more near and dear to our hearts than our name and e-marketing allows you to reach out to people using their personal names and their company names. Over time, you can refine your information about your buyers and make your relationships with them even more meaningful. Just be aware that the technology can kill you if you have a glitch and you use the wrong name for someone. There's a fine line between your buyer feeling special because you used his name and feeling manipulated because you didn't do it in a meaningful way. When your buyer feels special he'll engage with you, when he feels manipulated he'll just move on and leave you behind.

Here and Now and Everywhere: e-marketing campaigns can reach buyers in their e-mail in-boxes, on their phones and PDA's and just about anywhere else. We want information immediately and technology is giving it to us whenever and wherever we want it. And, e-marketing is riding right alongside the information stream.

Entertain Me: today's buyer wants some fun along with the product info, and e-marketing can provide the ticket. E-Marketing campaigns can be more interactive, more fun and engaging with the use of music, animation, video and sound. Getting buyers involved to buy from you can include games, surveys, quizzes and other fun things that help to entertain them.

Click it so easy: with e-marketing tactics your buyers are ever only a click away from you. They can immediately make a purchase, ask for information, view a product demo, send for a sample or engage with you in any number of ways. They don't have to get up and make a phone call, send you a letter or visit a store. With e-marketing you've made it easy.

e-Marketing is the "Holy Grail" that today's marketers have been searching for. Its tactics are the hardest working, most effective, most efficient, highly trackable, absolutely accountable and, on top of all that, entertaining. If you're not deploying an e-marketing plan, you're missing the boat. And, that would be a tragedy.

Muhammad Yunus is founder and managing director of the Grameen Bank, established in Bangladesh in 1983. Dr. Yunus founded the bank with the objective of helping poor people escape from poverty by providing loans on terms suitable to them and by teaching them a few sound principles of finances so they can help themselves.

In 2006, Dr. Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the Bank.
